Cottage Grove offering parenting classes – The Register-Guard
COTTAGE GROVE — A program aimed at improving residents’ parenting skills is looking for parents of young children as well as expectant parents and those with older children.
The program, spearheaded by South Lane Mental Health, is funded by a two-year, $10,000 grant from the Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon. The grant will help pay for several 10-week sessions of parenting classes to be offered for free to Cottage Grove area families.
The classes, called Secure Kids, Successful Futures, will use Circle of Security, an internationally recognized program that helps parents and careÂÂgivers meet a child’s needs in a healthy, loving way.
Classes will be held Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting Oct. 6 at the Cottage Grove Lane Community College campus, in conjunction with the South Lane School District and its family resource center, A Primary Connection. Free dinner and childcare will be available.
The first 10-week session will be for Spanish speakers, with another series of classes for English speakers to start in January. To register for either, call A Primary Connection at 541-942-4967.
Class sizes are limited; early registration is encouraged.
