Nebraska Mom and Her Boyfriend Accused of Duct-Taping Children to a Chair to … – People Magazine

A Nebraska mother has been charged with child abuse after police say she allowed her boyfriend to duct tape her kids to chairs and force them to watch the film Mommie Dearest

According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE, Mary Lucas told authorities that she forced her children – ages 4 and 7 – to watch the film after they called her “the meanest mommy.”

The police report says that she chose that film because it was “Hollywood’s perfect representation of a mean mother.” Lucas, 28, claims that her own mother forced her to watch the movie when she was just 4 years old.

Mommie Dearest is a biographical drama about Joan Crawford’s allegedly abusive relationship with her adopted daughter, Christina Crawford. The 1981 film, starring Faye Dunaway as Joan, was a box office success and has since become a cult classic, in part to Dunaway’s over-the-top performance.

According to an Affidavit for Probable Cause, Lucas left it to her boyfriend, Glenn Oliver, to administer the punishment. He allegedly did the duct-taping while Lucas left the home.

Police also allege that the couple deprived the children of food. “The children would return to school on Monday morning and have made statements [that] “we are glad to be back at school. We haven’t had anything to eat all weekend.”

Lucas is facing charges of child endangerment and allegedly depriving them of food. Oliver is being held on charges of child abuse and false imprisonment.

It is unclear whether either of them have retained an attorney.
