Two children pulled from Durham pond – WRAL.com
Durham, N.C. — Durham police spent early Monday investigating how two small children ended up in a pond near the Audubon Lake apartment community.
“We’re in the process of finding out exactly what it is that has occurred here,” said Durham Chief of Police Jose Lopez.
Officers were called out on a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of Shearwater Drive at around 9 p.m. There they found that an off-duty sheriff’s deputy had pulled the children from a pond.
Neighbors said they saw emergency personnel give the children CPR before they were taken to a local hospital. A third child, who police said ran to a nearby business, was found unharmed and taken to police headquarters.
Lopez said a man claiming to be the father of the children was being interviewed at police headquarters.
Around 4 a.m., investigators towed a white SUV from the scene, although they did not say what connection it had to the children.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
