176th Erie County Fair ends with a bang – WKBW-TV

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) – It was a jam- packed twelve days at the Erie County Fair for visitors and staff.

Sunday, the fair celebrated its final day of summer, before closing until next year.  Officials with the fair said 1,172,635 guests attended this year’s event. The record set in 2014 of 1,220,101 guests still stands.

Thousands packed the grand stands for the annual Demolition Derby. A sold out crowd watched cars smashing up and competing on the race tracks.

This year, there was a lot to be celebrated. Whether you visit for the food, rides or animals, the Erie County Fair proved to have something for everyone.

“People really seem to enjoy the fair,” said Jessica Underberg who works at the fair. “Our tagline is ‘It’s our fair’ and everyone has their own piece they enjoy,” she said.

“My sister and I have a lot of fun here,” said Ashley, who’s getting ready for back-to-school, as she gets ready to enter 5th grade this year.

Ashley and her grandparents came to the “Moo-ternity Ward” at the fair to learn about the different animals.

“The animals are so cute!” Ashley said.

Now, most of the animals have left the grounds, and staff is already taking notes.

“We’re preparing for next year,” Underberg said.
