The State Fire Marshal’s Office said three people were hurt in a ride accident at the Cornish Fair on Friday night.

A 28-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl, both from Canaan, fell from the ride, called the Zipper. One of them fell onto a 23-year-old man operating the ride. All three had minor injuries; they have been treated and released from local hospitals.

Investigators said their preliminary work shows a mechanical issue caused the Zipper to move as a car was being loaded. That’s when the woman and girl fell.

Tramway and Amusement Ride Safety inspectors examined the ride again Saturday morning. At the time the midway opened Saturday, the ride was still closed.

State Fire Marshal Bill Degnan said the investigation is ongoing.
