4-year-old California boy picks out Little Mermaid doll at the toy store – Daily Mail

A father who let his young son choose a doll for a toy has seen a video of him applauding the boy’s decision go viral.

Father Mikki Willis of Ojai, California, was exchanging a duplicate gift with his son at a toy store when four-year-old Azai decided he wanted a Little Mermaid doll.

The production company founder took the opportunity to post a video and tell his sons: ‘You have my promise forever to love you and accept you no matter what life you choose’.

‘How do you think a dad feels when his son wants to get this?’ the dad says before shouting ‘yeah’ with his son

The video has since been viewed more than 12million times on Facebook.

‘This is what he chose, now how do you think a dad feels when his son wants to get this?’ Willis says while holding the Princess Ariel doll in his car.

Azai yells ‘yeah!’ and his dad echoes the outburst, saying that he feels the same way.Â Â

‘I let my boy choose their life, that’s how mama and I, that’s how we are,’ he said before promising to love Azai and his one-and-a-half-year-old son Zuri forever.Â

The father said that he was not surprised when his four-year-old picked up the Barbie.

‘Azai is equally fascinated by princesses and robots. One moment he’s all boy, the next he’s expressing a softer, more angelic side,’ he said Monday on Facebook.

‘For me this behavior rings more authentic than playing one note all the time.’Â

Willis said he was also grateful for all the attention and positive support his video has received.

‘To know we’ve touched people beyond our immediate community is both humbling and awesome!’ he said.

‘My boys fill my wife and I with so much joy that it would be selfish of us not to share them’.

The father told Buzzfeed NewsÂ that he was particularly inspired to post the video after seeing women at a restaurant give his son and his doll disapproving looks.

Azai reportedly carries the doll around with him and Willis said, ‘I imagine she will be on the battlefield with the Transformers any day now’.
