Marion County, Indiana (June 19, 2015) – Carnival rides, fried food, and family fun. The Marion County Fair is finally here.
Although, the weather is not cooperating. In the past week, Indiana has been hit with heavy rains which have left behind standing water and lots of mud.
“We have never had rain and mud like this. But, we are dealing with it and trying to stay positive. We have the new main street blacktopped and a lot of other improvements going on. Although, it is a little mushy,†says President of the Marion County Fair Board Ron Phillips.
The potential for severe weather will continue throughout the weekend. Organizers say they will evacuate the Marion County Fairgrounds if lightening, thunder, or strong winds are detected in the area. Staff will also have assistance from police officers and paramedics who will remain on scene throughout the event.
Some of the rides at the Marion County Fair could be effected from the rain as well. If there is too much standing water, some of the rides could be out of service.
“My big concern is the grounds and making sure that the blocking is holding up. That is what we will be watching very closely,†says Midway unit ride inspector Michael Curry.
The 85th Annual Marion County Fair is known for the small town feel, great entertainment, and family fun. Something fair organizers say can not be affected by the weather.
“You just deal with what life throws at you. You make lemonade out of lemons and that is what we are going to make. Actually, we are going to make lemonade shakeups this year at the 85th Annual Marion County Fair,†says Phillips.
