A Packers star, an eight-year-old girl and corporate sponsors helped create a special day for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Make-a-Wish.
Wide receiver james Jones and Wish Kid Maggie Hendrick presented a check for nearly $10,000 to the two organizations on behalf of Pick ‘n Save and Gannett Media.
Maggie, who’s from Appleton, was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. She wanted to give back in this new year.
She teamed up with Jones to create a holiday greeting card featuring her artwork and both of their autographs. The cards were sold at supermarkets across the state, with proceeds going back to help other children in need.
“I thought it was awesome that I’m helping all those children that are going through some of the things that I’m doing, too, and I love to help out,†Maggie said.
“My biggest thing is putting smiles on the kids’ faces. I mean, whenever I can help cheer kids’ days up, especially one that’s going through things bigger than we face every day, it’s unbelievable,†Jones said.
Jones and Maggie say they consider themselves best friends now and look forward to spending time together.
