Sixth Annual Fire Bowl raises money for SIDS – kwwl.com

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Sixth Annual Fire Bowl raised money for SIDS this year, or Sudden Infant Death  Syndrome.

Public safety teams participated during a 7-on-7 flag football tournament.

The event was held at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

The money raised this year will go to the Safe Sleep Task Force to help provide safe sleeping environments for low-income parents.

Parents who sign up, attend a two hour class and receive a free crib.

“It’s nice to know that we can help different charities for children. Like I said, each year it’s a different charity so we have helped numerous different children out throughout the state of Iowa, so it’s nice to know that we’re giving back to children in need,” said Marci Neal, from St. Luke’s Emergency Department.

Many public safety teams participated including the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and St. Luke’s Emergency Department to name a few.

Many of the participants told us they look forward to the event all year long, some of them have played every year since the tradition started.
